Quantitative Risk Management track The Quantitative Risk Management track in the MSc Actuarial Science and Mathematical Finance provides an excellent grounding for your career as a risk manager. What makes this 1-year programme unique is that it incorporates all the latest international developments, such as bank regulation and advanced quantitative risk modelling. Also, you will gain insight in all up-to-date techniques and practices to kick-start your career. The Quantitative Risk Management track is one of 2 tracks you can choose from within this Master’s programme. Help financial institutions deal with risks How does a financial institution deal with financial uncertainty, liabilities, IT security threats and data-related risks? Risk management is all about identifying, assessing and controlling such threats to an organisation's capital and earnings. Since especially digital developments are moving increasingly fast, the field of risk management keeps bringing you interesting challenges to sink your teeth into. About your lecturers Your lecturers will be industry experts and leading researchers who conduct world-class research in the field. They are enthusiastic about introducing you to the latest developments and their theories on how to deal with new challenges in the risk management field. The Quantitative Risk Management track will give you a solid preparation to become a highly sought-after (quantitative) risk management professional. Track-specific courses and electives Banking Risk Management In the 1st part of this course you will learn the basic principles and requirements governing banking regulation and supervision, aimed at safeguarding stable banks. We will analyse the risks as well as the remedies that were drawn up for bank risk management. You will also explore the changing structure of the broader financial system. The 2nd part of this course treats quantitative models for (portfolio) credit and liquidity risk management at an advanced level. Financial Econometrics This course covers the following topics: linear time series analysis, volatility models, value at risk, VAR models and cointegration, multivariate volatility and correlation models and high-frequency data and realised variance. These topics are applied to empirical data using Python and R. Electives Apart from the common and track-specific courses, we offer you a selection of electives to choose from: Caput Insurance Fixed Income Risk Management Quantitative Marketing Retirement Savings and Investment Decisions

Academic admission requirements 1. Academic Bachelor's degree Applicants are expected to hold an academic Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a field that ensures a high level of mathematical proficiency (e.g. Mathematics, Physics or Econometrics), particularly in the fields of calculus, linear algebra, statistics and probability. Additionally, students are assumed to be familiar with the following topics: · Linear regression models; · Mathematical and empirical finance; · Actuarial science, in particular risk theory and elementary life insurance Please note that a Bachelor's degree from a university of applied sciences or a Fachhochschule (Germany) will not be taken into consideration. Specific entry requirements apply to students with an African, Chinese, or Indian Bachelor's degree. GRE All applicants need to take a GRE test before the application deadline in order to be considered for this programme. So please start planning your test date on time. Applicants are expected to achieve a score of 158 for the Quantitative Reasoning section. If you do not achieve the expected score your application will still be considered. However, a minimum score of 155 on the Quantitative Reasoning section is required. Applicants who submit a GRE below this minimum score will not be accepted into this programme. Please note that completion of all sections of the exam is required. For registration please refer to the GRE website. The institution code for GRE 7878 U Amsterdam School of Economics. Based on mutual agreements with certain universities, students might be exempted from the GRE requirement. Check the list of universities to see whether this applies to you. GMAT In place of a GRE, a GMAT test score may be accepted in the following cases: if you have already obtained a GMAT score if it is difficult to take the GRE test on a short notice in your country An overall score of 640 and 48 points in the Quantitative Reasoning section is expected from applicants for this programme. If you do not achieve the expected scores your application will still be considered. However, a minimum overall score of 620 with 45 points in the Quantitative Reasoning section is required. Applicants who submit a GMAT below this minimum score will not be accepted into this programme. Please note that completion of all sections of the exam is required. For GMAT registration, please refer to the GMAT website. The institution code for GMAT is 0500, Amsterdam Business School, MSc in Business Administration. 4. Motivation and initiative Applicants are expected to have the intrinsic motivation to test and build upon this knowledge. Coursework is designed in keeping with this expectation and demands significant personal initiative and an active contribution on the part of the student. Applicants are asked to upload a motivation letter and CV in their online application. 5. Academic Referee Applicants are expected to invite at least one academic referee to submit their reference online. In the online application you need to fill out the contact details of the referee. Please make sure that your referee has agreed to write a recommendation before you register the referee's details. Your references should refer to your academic experience (e.g. coming from a former teacher).
Language requirements We require evidence of English proficiency TOEFL IBT: 92, at least 22 on each sub-score (TOEFL institution code: 9011) IELTS Academic: 6.5, at least 6 on each sub-score Cambridge Assessment English: Certificate in Advanced English: 170 Points Overall and in each skill Certificate of Proficiency in English: 170 Points Overall and in each skill Test scores must also conform to the following guidelines: An official and sufficient English proficiency test score must be received by the application deadline If you do not provide a sufficient English proficiency test score before the application deadline, you must have an English proficiency test scheduled for a date which is before the application deadline Your English proficiency test score may not be more than 2 years old with respect to the start date of your programme. For example, if you're applying for the September 2020 intake we don't accept English proficiency tests taken before September 2018 Be sure to plan your test on time; test dates fill quickly and it can take several weeks for you to receive your results. Applications without a sufficient score or with a test date after the application deadline, will not be accepted. Exemptions You have obtained your Bachelor's degree in one of the following countries: The Netherlands, Australia, Canada (with the exception of Quebec), Ireland, Malta, New Zealand, South Africa, United Kingdom, United States of America.
