| Description/content | Actuarial Science track The Actuarial Science track in the MSc Actuarial Science and Mathematical Finance provides you with an excellent grounding for your career as an actuary or risk manager. What makes this 1-year programme unique is that it incorporates all the latest international developments. Think of big data science and behavioural insurance and finance. Also, you will gain insight in up-to-date techniques and practices to kick-start your career. The Actuarial Science track is one of 2 tracks you can choose within this Master’s programme. Help organisations predict the financial impact of future developments How much should we set aside for our retirement years? How should insurance companies determine the premiums of earthquake insurances? And how should complex financial products such as a credit default swap be priced? These are typical questions you will investigate during your year with us. About your lecturers You will receive lectures and seminars by leading scholars in the field and by professionals who work in the industry, such as the director of the Dutch Central Bank. They will teach you the most advanced techniques, practices and insights of today. | Academic admission requirements | 1. Academic Bachelor's degree Applicants are expected to hold an academic Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a field that ensures a high level of mathematical proficiency (e.g. Mathematics, Physics or Econometrics), particularly in the fields of calculus, linear algebra, statistics and probability. Additionally, students are assumed to be familiar with the following topics: · Linear regression models; · Mathematical and empirical finance; · Actuarial science, in particular risk theory and elementary life insurance Please note that a Bachelor's degree from a university of applied sciences or a Fachhochschule (Germany) will not be taken into consideration. Specific entry requirements apply to students with an African, Chinese, or Indian Bachelor's degree. GRE All applicants need to take a GRE test before the application deadline in order to be considered for this programme. So please start planning your test date on time. Applicants are expected to achieve a score of 158 for the Quantitative Reasoning section. If you do not achieve the expected score your application will still be considered. However, a minimum score of 155 on the Quantitative Reasoning section is required. Applicants who submit a GRE below this minimum score will not be accepted into this programme. Based on mutual agreements with certain universities, students might be exempted from the GRE requirement. Check the list of universities to see whether this applies to you. GMAT In place of a GRE, a GMAT test score may be accepted in the following cases: if you have already obtained a GMAT score if it is difficult to take the GRE test on a short notice in your country An overall score of 640 and 48 points in the Quantitative Reasoning section is expected from applicants for this programme. If you do not achieve the expected scores your application will still be considered. However, a minimum overall score of 620 with 45 points in the Quantitative Reasoning section is required. Applicants who submit a GMAT below this minimum score will not be accepted into this programme. Please note that completion of all sections of the exam is required. For GMAT registration, please refer to the GMAT website. The institution code for GMAT is 0500, Amsterdam Business School, MSc in Business Administration. 4. Motivation and initiative Applicants are expected to have the intrinsic motivation to test and build upon this knowledge. Coursework is designed in keeping with this expectation and demands significant personal initiative and an active contribution on the part of the student. Applicants are asked to upload a motivation letter and CV in their online application. 5. Academic Referee Applicants are expected to invite at least one academic referee to submit their reference online. In the online application you need to fill out the contact details of the referee. Please make sure that your referee has agreed to write a recommendation before you register the referee's details.
