Step-by-Step German Student Visa Process (2025)
Secure admission or conditional admission in a recognized German university or Studienkolleg/preparatory program. Make sure to have:
- University admission letter or conditional offer
- Details of your course duration and medium of instruction
To get your visa approved, you must show you can support yourself financially in Germany. Most students open a Blocked Account with a minimum of €11,904 (as of 2025). Accepted options: Fintiba, Expatrio,Coracle
Health insurance is mandatory.
- For visa application: Travel insurance (up to 3 months)
- After reaching Germany: Public or private health insurance (TK, AOK, Barmer, etc.)
Here’s a standard checklist for Indian and South Asian students:
Mandatory Documents: 1.Valid Passport (with at least 1-year validity), 2. Admission letter from German university, 3. Proof of financial means (Blocked Account / Scholarship / Sponsor letter), 4. It is a mandatory platform for applicants in countries like India, Bangladesh, Nepal, etc., who wish to apply for a German National Visa- Student. Applicants must register, fill out forms, upload documents, and track applications through the CSP portal before visiting VFS for biometric and document submission. When applying for a student visa, the CSP portal will ask for: Personal details, University/course information, Proof of admission, Financial details (Blocked account, sponsor, etc.), Language proficiency (German or English), Health insurance, Document uploads (PDFs)
Important Notes: You must create an account on CSP before applying. You will require 2 email id’s in order to create a successful account on CSP portal. 1 email id will be for registration and logging in and other will be for receiving the OTP. Submitting the CSP form is mandatory before booking your VFS Germany visa appointment.
On CSP, above mentioned documents are uploaded and the visa officer checks the documents digitally. This step ensures that you submit all the required information and documents prior to your physical appointment at Embassy/Consulate. Any corrections or extra information required will be highlighted by Visa officer on the CSP portal. After your application in thoroughly verified on the CSP portal, you can proceed further with booking an appointment for Visa.
