Description/content

Can you predict when something goes viral? How do you model 5G? What happens in your brain when an epileptic seizure occurs? These questions all have one thing in common: mathematics is the way to come up with answers. In this 2 years master’s at the University of Twente (UT) you will apply mathematics to challenging issues in the most diverse sectors, from technology to healthcare. You will learn how to discover new patterns and how to predict them through mathematical models Choose a specialisation and research group Your choice of specialisation and research group determines which courses you will be taking and the type of research you will be involved in during your internship and master’s assignment. You can choose from three specialisations: • Operations Research (OR) • Mathematical Systems Theory, Applied Analysis and Computational Science (SACS) • Mathematics of Data Science (DS) The Master’s in Applied Mathematics has three specialisations. When applying for the programme, you will choose one of these specialisations – with the necessary freedom to tailor courses to your personal interests and ambitions. In consultation with the specialisation coordinator, you will compose the master’s that best matches your wishes and future plans. https://www.utwente.nl/en/education/master/programmes/applied-mathematics/specialisation/ PROGRAMME STRUCTURE This master’s consists of 120 EC (credits), with 1 EC representing 28 hours of study. An academic year counts 60 EC. Here’s how the programme is structured: • Three compulsory courses (15 EC) • A set of specialisation and a set of elective courses (total of 45 EC) • An internship (20 EC) • A master’s assignment (40 EC), the subject of which often originates from a research theme associated with the relevant chair; a master’s assignment can also be based on a research assignment for an external organisation. https://www.utwente.nl/en/education/master/programmes/applied-mathematics/programme/ COURSE DESCRIPTIONS https://www.utwente.nl/en/education/master/programmes/applied-mathematics/programme/course-descriptions/
