Description/content | A LONG-STANDING TRADITION The RMA in Art History was established in 2004 and has established a wide-ranging network of contacts with museums and heritage institutions in and outside of the Netherlands. Teaching is frequently hands-on and on-site: courses connect to ongoing academic projects and curatorial projects. Utrecht has itself two excellent museums and is centrally located in regard to major museums in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, Antwerp, Brussels, and Cologne. THREE CORE INTERESTS The programme’s traditional focus has been on the art of the Low Countries. The current programme maintains strong expertise in this field, but does not emphasize a single period or area. You will learn different art historical methods, with a focus on three new approaches that allow you to address art and material culture in terms of making, circulation, and display. In addition, you will pursue your individual interests in immersive tutorials and a 6-month internship. Study programme CURRICULUM The Research Master's programme Art History comprises two years (120 EC). Each year is divided into two semesters, running from September until January and from February until June. A semester is divided into two study periods. Courses The first year comprises varied courses and seminars. The second year consists of an internship and the Master’s thesis. Check the course descriptions. https://www.uu.nl/masters/en/art-history/study-programme Courses Below you will find the course descriptions of Art History. The first year’s programme consists of compulsory courses and electives. The second year comprises two elements: the Master's thesis (compulsory), and the internship (or a study abroad). Read more about the curriculum. Note on the electives: the courses Ecologies of Curation; Dutch Literature & Arts I and II; and Emerging and Transforming Media, Art and Performance are not offered by the Art History programme, but by other Research Master programmes in the Humanities. https://www.uu.nl/masters/en/art-history/courses |
